Picking the Perfect Cycling Bicycle is Easier Said Than Done

There are lots of reasons to choose a bicycle as your primary means of transportation. You may not even choose to ride a bicycle as a means of transportation at all. Some people choose to cycle because they need the exercise. Some people cycle as a competitive sport. Still others ride bicycles as a hobby because they enjoy the feeling of riding a bicycle around their neighborhood. Regardless of your reason for needing to find a bicycle, you need to take some things into consideration when the time comes to choose the perfect bicycle for you. Here are some hints to help you make your choice.

One of the major parts of choosing the right cycling bicycle for you is making sure that the bicycle is the right size. Begin by measuring your inseam. This is accomplished by measuring from your groin to your foot down the inside of your leg. The goal is to be able to sit on the seat of the bike and still rest your feet flat on the ground. This is mainly for safety and will allow you to use your feet to stop the bike without the brakes if needed.

What kind of add-ons must you have? If you have to move things using your bike, you’ll certainly want to add a basket. Will you need to transport a child? Attaching a child seat is not possible for every bike, so choose wisely. How about towing something behind the bike? If so, you will need to find a bicycle that can support the weight of a small trailer or whatever else you will be towing behind you.

It is important you allow for room between you and the crossbar. When you get a bike be sure to move the seat up a couple of inches from the crossbar. You should be able to still rest your feet flat on the floor. Which anonymous bike you get will greatly alter the clearance you will require. If you are buying a touring bike, for example, you only need an inch or so of clearance. However for a mountain bike you will need 3" between the crossbar and yourself.

So many options are available to you as you shop for a new bike. You have innumerable decisions to make as you choose how safe a bike to buy, as well as one that is pleasing to the eye.
